Richard‘s Washi House:
A standard private Japanese house renovated with washi
Richard Flavin was a renowned American washi artisan and printmaker. He and his wife Ryoko, a textile designer based in Tokyo, renovated this house using washi on the floors, walls, and closets. Unfortunately, Richard passed away a few years ago and the couple never had the chance to live here. The papering of the bedroom walls with washi has yet to be completed but plans are underway to finish this soon. Ryoko hopes to share this house with those who appreciate washi and the versatility of its applications. Part of this accommodation is a tour and explanation of how washi was used all over the house.
Price: 4,000yen/night with free use of the kitchen and bath.
